Quilt to Coat workshop

This one-day, six-hour workshop gives students:

  • layout brainstorming and inspiration by others’ designs/layouts
  • information on working with various ages of quilts, as well as quilted and unquilted fabrics.
  • guidance on creating pieces specifically for a quilt coat
  • understanding of the historical significance of quilted garments
  • learning garment sewing lexicon and reasoning
  • the opportunity to ask questions and get immediate feedback
  • additional education on a variety of topics including seam finishes
  • instruction on adding zipper or buttons
  • hands-on demonstrations of techniques and tips for their specific project 
  • personal lessons based on their individual fabric and style choices, and more.

Class requirements:

  • 10-16 students
  • 6-ft table for each student
  • Scheduled 30 minute break for lunch

Twin or larger finished quilt OR 3 yd. pre-quilted fabric OR large tablecloth
