Reset and restart

It’s been about 14 weeks since. I moved to Utah with my partner, Hawke, and I’m starting to feel settled once again. Moving between states is more taxing than I’d like to admit. It takes so long to get established with everything that is involved in making a daily life simple; I’m still waiting on getting my motorcycle endorsement and finding a dentist.

Nonetheless, it’s been a nice reset in southern Utah. We’ve settled into our new positions at ByAnnie.com as the LQS Support Team and getting some traction on that, working with quilt shops across the country once more. Part of that effort is creating videos and blog posts to highlight quilt shops, focusing first on those who won for their region in the 2024 Local Quilt Shop Contest. ByAnnie is the host for the contest and it dovetails nicely into my love of the LQS. Each week, on Live with Annie, we’ll feature a video spotlight for a shop or two. If you’re interested in seeing them, make sure to watch the Lives, or you can find them on YouTube. I’m really happy to be able to help promote them again and in a new way.

One of the tough things about this move was losing my studio space. I had an incredible studio in Kansas City and I didn’t thik it would be so hard to find a space here, but so far no luck. I have a bedroom at the house that I’ve converted into a sewing room, but my supplies spill out of that room and into the hall closets and my office at ByAnnie.com. I’ll be thrilled to find a new space that will give me room to both sew and create videos. For now, it’s a bit crowded with it all, but hey, it’s not the first time for me and I know I’m far from the only one.

Until I find more space, we’ve been creating videos here at home. You can catch me and Hawke live for Sundays in the Studio on our MAKE Facebook page and YouTube channel. We have missed connecting with folks like we did on Sew Together Tuesday, so we’ve relaunched a monthly series. You can find us there the first Sunday of every month at 2pm MT. It should be a fun peek into our life, my sewing and quilting, his painting, our local explorations, and fun convo between us all.

Speaking of explorations, I feel so lucky to live someplace that has such natural beauty. I loved the BBQ and people in KC, don’t get me wrong, but the Midwest doesn’t have much in the realm of beautiful scenery. Southern Utah is missing out on delicious food, but holy cow, we’ve got Zion and Cedar Breaks and Bryce Canyon and Canyonlands and…and… It’s pretty phenomenal. We’ve explored the area a bit and will continue to do so more as the temperatures cool down in the fall (100+ is too hot for exploring!). The little we’ve seen so far has been stunning and I’m looking forward to sharing it more.

On other thing, I’m starting to teach again and hoping you can join me somewhere along the way.

My online workshop for the Elemental Coat starts in August; sign-ups are open now and close THIS FRIDAY (August 9).They’ll re-open in mid-August with a new price, so if you want a deal, get in on the first round.

I’ll be teaching at a retreat for KC Maker Studio & Fabrics on August 15-17. You can also join me at the GEDesigns Fam Fest on Sept 15-16. Then the next weekend, I’ll be at Cali Quilt Co for a two-day event. Hawke and I will both be a Quilt Festival in early November.

Thanks for joining me and I hope to see you in a class somewhere along the way!
